Mission Statement
The Agape Foundation expresses its commitment to a just and peaceful world by funding the nonviolent social change organizations that will create that world.

Value Statement

We are committed to true human security through equitably redistributing resources, and challenging all forms of oppression. Our decisions and discussions are rooted in histories of nonviolent resistance. We promote community-based efforts towards creating systemic change for social justice. We value transparent decision-making processes as an aspect of nonviolence. We are participatory and consensus based. We value and foster a collaborative and inclusive organizational culture. We believe that those communities that we fund and fiscally sponsor should be represented in the foundation.

Who we are
The Agape Foundation is a non-profit public foundation, which raises and distributes funds to groups working for nonviolent social change. Since its formation in 1969 by a group of pacifists and anti-war activists in Palo Alto, California, the Agape Foundation has provided millions of dollars to nonviolent, grassroots organizations throughout the western United States.

What we do:

  • We provide seed grants to new, California-based, peace and justice organizations to help them get off the ground.

  • We provide a fiscal sponsorship program that allows donors to make tax-deductible contributions to smaller
groups in California who do not have their own tax-exempt status.

  • We offer short-term, low-interest loans to peace and justice organizations in the western United States.

  • We provide emergency grants to help California-based, peace and justice organizations respond to unforeseen     governmental, corporate, environmental or military events.

Why we do it:
The Foundation’s purpose is to fund nonviolent social change organizations committed to peace and justice issues. Unlike social services that aid and assist individuals, social change efforts confront the root causes of social problems by challenging the responsible systems and institutions. It is in this way that Agape works to create a just and peaceful world.
