Stern Memorial Fund to support and strengthen the technological, organizational and outreach capabilities of Activist San Diego and its Activist Newsletter, rapid response capability and alternative information network, which provides a peaceful alternative voice to the military establishment of this city.

Dancers without Borders, San Francisco, CA is an all-woman, multi-racial performance collective dedicated to making dance-theatre that matters. They use movement spoken word, music and other cultural artist to mobilize resistance to war and other forms of oppression while presenting a vision of a society based on cooperation, justice and beauty. They received a $2,000 grant from the Board of Trustees and the Esther P. Oliver Memorial Fund to support the development of a new dance piece addressing war and violence and to help implement presentations at schools and other public spaces.

Freedom Archives, San Francisco, CA. The intern collective of the Freedom Archives is completing a 12” vinyl record about war and resistance. These unique historical clips selected from archived radio programming are “sampled” for use by DJs, spoken word artists and young radio programmers. This is intended as an educational and organizing tool focussed on youth. They received a $2,000 grant from the Board of Trustees for the duplication and distribution of this vinyl product.

National Radio Project, Oakland, CA heightens public consciousness, broadens public debate on critical social issues and encourages civic preparation by giving voice to diverse perspectives and opinions not typically heard on mass media, They achieve this objective by producing and distributing high-quality public affairs and news programs, and by training and supporting independent journalists and individuals involved in community building activities. They received a $2,000 grant from the Board of Trustees and the Wayne R. Hultgren Memorial Fund to fund their project, “Real Peace and Security,” which will be comprised of two 29-minute radio programs. The first program will focus on globalization as it relates to injustice and war; the second will explore peace movements led by women activists.
