BOARD OF TRUSTEES GRANTS

Unique Granting Process
As part of its commitment to nonviolence, Agape prides itself on making its processes transparent. The granting session, a hallmark of our work, is conducted in this open manner.

The process begins with Agape staff reviewing all requests for Board of Trustees grants. At the first Board of Trustees meeting after the application deadline, the Board reviews all complete proposals that fall within Agape’s funding priorities. Proposals that do not fall within the funding priorities receive rejection notices promptly.

Board members follow-up on proposals by telephone to obtain additional information, if necessary. The Board then invites eligible applicants to attend a granting session where the Board will make its final decisions. All other applicants receive rejection notices by mail.

At the granting session, the Board asks applicants to make a brief presentation and answer questions. Directly following the presentations, the Board facilitator takes a quick pulse of the members to determine their immediate reactions to the presentation and to the group’s proposal.

In keeping with the philosophy of nonviolence, the Board invites the applicants to stay for the entire session to observe other applicants’ presentations and the deliberation process. (An invitation to a granting session does not automatically assume funding). The Board also invites applicants to participate in the evaluation portion that concludes the granting session. After the Board has made its decisions, the staff sends the grant check and appropriate paperwork.
