DONOR ADVISED GRANT PROGRAM
About the Foundation
Agape Foundation, established in 1969 by pacifists, conscientious
objectors from WWII and anti-Vietnam War activists, is a non-profit
public foundation that raises and distributes funds to organizations
working for nonviolent social change. Agape believes that lasting
social change will only occur through the practice of nonviolence.
One of the ways Agape supports nonviolence is through its donor
advised grant fund.
Donor Advised Grants
A donor advised grant fund is an unrestricted fund where, for a
limited time, the donor exercises the privilege of making nonbinding
recommendations to the Board of Trustees suggesting which charitable
organizations should receive grants from the fund. Such suggestions
or recommendations must be advisory only and Agape must retain the
final authority to determine the use and distributions of the fund.
These grants are made to the legal, charitable and educational work
of organizations that fulfill Agapes mission.
Issue Areas
Agape provides grants to tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) organizations or
fiscally sponsored organizations and film and/or video projects
promoting peace and social justice. Agape does not fund social or
direct service organizations unless they have a major advocacy component.
The following are examples of some of the issue areas Agape funds:
Peace anti-military and anti-nuclear
Community building building nonviolent alternatives,
nonviolent conflict resolution, alternatives to gang violence
Human rights civil rights, lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgendered
rights and womens rights
Environmental justice and protection
Economic justice
Funding priorities
Agape will consider grants to organizations that meet the following
priorities:

in their organizational relations, structure, process and actions.

participation.
Organizations that integrate peace and social justice issues.
Organizations that are located in the Western U.S. or the
Pacific Basin (over)

The minimum grant amount is $100.

is a 5% service fee for all funds received.

Donors receive a tax deduction by giving to the Fund.
Donors make a single tax-deductible donation.
All communications between the donor and group can go through
Agape, if so desired.
As a supporter of Agape, your grant helps to increase Agape's
visibility in the community and further the foundations exempt
purposes.
Application process
To apply, please send a letter requesting the establishment of a
Donor Advised Fund. The deadline for receiving requests is the last
business day of the month for review at the next months Board
of Trustees' meeting.
Decision making Process
The Agape staff reviews all requests for establishing a Donor Advised
Fund before submission to the Board of Trustees. The Trustees will
review all requests. Upon approval, the staff will send a written
agreement that establishes the fund. The staff will establish the
fund upon receipt of the signed agreement. The donor then makes
a gift in cash or stock to the fund and submits a list in writing
of suggested nonviolent social change grantee organizations. As
a foundation that depends on the generosity of individuals, we hope
that a donor will remember Agape when recommending nonviolent social
change organizations. Upon investigation of the suggested organizations
by the staff and approval by the Board of Trustees, staff will disburse
the grants promptly.
Grantee Responsibilities
The recipient of the donor advised grant fund must sign and return
the grant agreement. The grantee receives two months to complete
a report to Agape explaining how they spent the funds. Agape keeps
all reports on file in the office. If an organization has not completed
all the required paperwork, they may not receive any new grants.
Agape sends a letter to the recipient informing them of the overdue
paperwork before disbursing any new grants.
