How to Find Other Potential Funding Sources

When searching for foundation support for your organization, the first place to look is The Foundation Center. The Center is an independent, national, service organization established by foundations to provide an authoritative source of information on foundation and corporate giving. Their reference collections offer a wide variety of services and comprehensive resources on foundations and grants. In San Francisco, they are located at 312 Sutter Street, Suite 606, phone (415) 397-0902. For other locations, please visit their website, http://www.fdncenter.org.

If you are unable to visit in person, The Foundation Center’s website will allow you to search through the Foundation Directory Online Plus and Premium for a wealth of data and advice on grantseeking, including links to foundations' IRS information returns (990-PFs).

While researching potential funders, don’t overlook the Grantmakers Directory produced by the National Network of Grantmakers (NNG) an organization of individuals involved in funding social and economic justice. NNG is committed to the goal of increasing resources, financial and otherwise, to organizations working for social change. For more information about them, please visit their website,
http://www.nng.org.

Their directory, a resource for social change funders and grantseekers, profiles over 200 foundations, and provides facts on application processes, timelines, contact persons and budget information so that you will have the whole picture when approaching a funder. The profiles also contain information on funding areas, web data and geographical restrictions. The directory is indexed by region, funding interest and numerous other ways to make it simple to use.
